About SVA

Admissions

SVA awards partial tuition scholarships to help talented students realize their dreams of becoming professional artists. Scholarships are primarily available to full-time students seeking admission to the fall semester, and are based on academic and creative merit. First-time freshman awards are renewable for each of the subsequent three years, providing the recipient maintains full-time enrollment and a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0. Transfer awards are renewable based on the level of placement at which the student enters SVA, providing the recipient maintains full-time enrollment and a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
Please note that applicants will not be considered for scholarship until all the requirements for undergraduate admission have been completed.

SILAS H. RHODES SCHOLARSHIP

Named for SVA's founder, this competition awards partial-tuition scholarships to applicants from the United States and abroad. The scholarships are awarded strictly on merit and recognize the creative and academic achievements of applicants.

Fall 2010
A minimum grade point average of 3.0 is required for scholarship eligibility. In order to be considered for the Silas H. Rhodes Scholarship, first-time freshman applicants must submit all admissions materials postmarked by February 1, 2010, and transfer applicants must submit all admissions materials postmarked by March 1, 2010. Admissions materials include a digital portfolio on CD-R or uploaded to http://sva.slideroom.com.

SVA does not require a separate application for the Silas H. Rhodes Scholarship or Chairman's Merit Award.  If applicants submit all  materials by the specified deadline and have a minimum 3.0 GPA, their application will be automatically reviewed for scholarship.  Only scholarship winners will be notified of an award

Spring 2011
A limited number of Silas H. Rhodes Scholarships are available to new students entering in the spring 2011 semester. To be eligible, spring applicants must submit all admissions and scholarship materials postmarked by November 1, 2010.

CHAIRMAN'S MERIT AWARD (CMA)
First-time freshman and transfer applicants seeking admission to a full-time undergraduate program for the fall or spring semesters are eligible for this award. Candidates cannot apply for a CMA, but are identified during the application process and are notified of such awards by the Office of Admissions. Awards are based on the student's academic and creative merit. Renewal of this award is contingent upon the maintenance of full-time enrollment and a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

NATIONAL SCHOLASTIC ART AWARD SCHOLARSHIPS
Working in support of the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, SVA offers two scholarships through the Scholastic Art Awards national competition. SVA will select two recipients: one in art & design and one in photography from the list of winners forwarded by the Scholastic Art Awards. All candidates included on the list who have identified SVA as one of their top choices of colleges will automatically be considered for these scholarships. Awards will be granted to eligible high school seniors. For entry information, please visit www.scholastic.com/artandwriting.

Please note that students who have previously been awarded a Silas H. Rhodes Scholarship are not eligible.

OHIO GOVERNOR'S YOUTH ART EXHIBITION
SVA awards a scholarship each year to one of the finalists selected by the Ohio Governor's Youth Art Exhibition. For more information, please visit www.state.oh.us/govart.
