Awards Ceremony and After Party: Monday, May 12, 2008
The 19th annual Dusty Film and Animation Festival and Awards will showcase over 100 films by students graduating from the BFA Film, Video and Animation Department at the School of Visual Arts (SVA). The program includes five days of screenings of short films, videos and animations; a screenwriters night, where professional actors read excerpts of screenplays by graduating seniors; and an awards ceremony and after party with notable presenters from the film industry.
Reeves Lehmann, chair of the BFA Film, Video and Animation Department at SVA, said, “With the Dustys, we recognize the achievement of emerging filmmakers and give members of the industry the chance to see the work of the next generation of film and animation talent. This year we are delighted to present the festival at SVA’s new Visual Arts Theater.”
Each year, outstanding achievements awards are presented in the following categories: screenwriting, cinematography, video, editing, directing, film, acting, traditional animation and stop-motion animation. Previous award presenters have included Harvey Keitel, Danny Aiello, Sean Combs, Bryan Singer, Treat Williams, Wes Craven, Griffin Dunne, Bill Plympton and Ellen Burstyn.

The Dusty Film and Animation Festival and Awards began in 1990 when the BFA Film, Video and Animation Department sought to bring its year-end screenings of student films to a wider audience. With support from the film industry, a venue and sponsorship were secured and the event came to life. To pay tribute to School of Visual Arts founder Silas H. Rhodes, the event was named “Dusty” - after the nickname Mr. Rhodes had as a soldier in World War II.
