Q. What information is required to get clearance to register for classes?

Once accepted to SVA, students are mailed a SVA Student Health Form. This form contains all of the requirements of New York State to attend college. Students must review information about the meningococcal meningitis vaccine and indicate if they had the vaccine or do not want to have the vaccine at that time. Student also must demonstrate immunity to measles, mumps and rubella. Accepted students can also obtain the SVA Student Health Form at www.sva.edu/healthform

Q. What is the Health Insurance Fee?

Students are automatically enrolled in the SVA-sponsored sickness insurance plan and billed the Health Insurance Fee. The Health Insurance Fee ($650) is charged each semester and students who register for and attend classes for the fall and spring semester have coverage for one year (August 25, 2010 - August 24, 2011).

Information about the plan can be viewed at www.sva.edu/aetna. The site contains a feature to search for health care providers who accept Aetna . Students who register for Aetna Navigator can access their insurance claims and other information online. For questions about the insurance, please call 877.623.3324.

Students who have other have health insurance that can be used in the New York City area and do not wish to have the sickness portion of the SVA-sponsored insurance must complete the online waiver at www.sva.edu/aetna by the applicable deadline each academic year. The online waiver must be completed before October 7, 2010 in order to waive the Health Insurance Fee for the 2010-2011 academic year. Failure to complete this online waiver will result in automatic enrollment in the SVA plan at the current rate. There are no refunds of the Health Insurance Fee after the semester?s deadline date.

Q: How do I get a copy of my transcript?

In order for us to send a transcript you must either fax or mail to us a signed and dated request - federal regulations by which we must abide.
On the request include:
-- Your name while attending SVA
-- Date attended
-- Student ID or SSN
-- Where to send the transcript
-- How to contact you if the need arises

Q: How do I get a Certificate of Attendance (aka Enrollment Verification)?

Q: How do I get my grades?
Log on to SVA-NET, there are links to grades or https://webadvisor.schoolofvisualarts.edu.






Q: How do I apply for housing?
If you are an incoming student and you have received your acceptance letter from SVA, submit your housing deposit and your enrollment fees to the Office of Admissions. They will update your student status and will inform our office of your interest. You will then receive a housing preference form and contract. If you are a current SVA student, please email reslife@sva.edu
and check MySVA for updates.


Q: How do I cancel housing?
To cancel your housing assignment, you must submit a written request that includes your full name and SVA ID# to the Office of Residence Life via email at reslife@sva.edu


Q: What is your refund policy?
We follow the SVA tuition refund schedule that is outlined below:


Q: Withdrawal Period Refund
Prior to beginning off the semester: 100%
During the first or second week: 90%
During the third week: 50%
During the fifth through eight week: 25%
No refunds will be issued after the eighth week of the semester.


Q: What are the housing rates?
Housing rates are available on the website at www.sva.edu/residencelife

Q: How can I get a tour?
We offer tours from 12pm to 2pm Monday through Friday. Our tour schedule is located on the website at www.sva.edu/residencelife


Q: When can I check into housing for the Fall 2009 semester?
If you are an incoming student you may check in on Sunday, August 30, 2009. If you are a returning student your check in date will be on Saturday, September 5, 2009.


Q: Do you offer Summer Housing?
Summer housing is offered for SVA as well as non-SVA students. If you need further information please check out the summer housing page, or email us at summerhousing@sva.edu.


Q: When is New Student Fall 2009 Orientation?
New Student Orientation will begin on Monday, August 31, 2009. Information will be mailed out to all incoming students in late July.
