When I was invited to be part of the MPS in Digital Photography program I jumped at the opportunity to share the technical side of digital imaging with graduate level students. The current trend in the photographic industry is towards push button auto-everything consumerism, which has devalued the role of photographer and the creative community in general. Sadly, many educational programs have become simple mouthpieces for the hardware and software manufacturers. This program is unique in the country and I give Katrin Eismann credit for having the vision to make a difference in the educational focus. Helping foster a new generation of technically savvy imaging professionals is incredibly rewarding, and as highly educated consumers, our students will be able to cut through the marketing haze to identify and develop the best of class imaging solutions to push the creative envelope.
