Learn about Career Opportunities in Art at SVA's Office of Career Development

SVA’s Office of Career Development supports students and alumni in building the skills needed to prosper in even the most challenging markets. To succeed, artists mustn’t only learn the nuts and bolts of creating their art; they also need to know how to present their work, communicate their ideas, establish industry connections and utilize available resources. Through its various programs and services, SVA’s Office of Career Development educates students in these areas and provides them with the right tools for success.

At SVA, one-on-one and group career counseling assists students in exploring, identifying and pursuing their individual career goals, while also teaching them about the professional “tools” they have at their disposal. Frequent workshops on topics such as professional networking, improving résumés and preparing for interviews, legal issues and tax strategies for artists – just to name a few – are given throughout the fall and spring semesters. Additionally, many of the speakers invited to SVA are recruiters, from such desirable companies as DreamWorks Animation Studios and MTV Networks, creating an educational workshop that is also a valuable networking opportunity.

Career Development’s Internship for Credit program allows students to gain hands-on professional experience interning at companies such as Marvel Comics, BBDO, 20th Century Fox and many more. Career Development’s Online Job and Internship Board gives students and alumni access to listings from thousands of companies, as well as the option to post their résumé and portfolio images for prospective employers to review.
